In many ways, breakfast can typically be the simplest of the three square meals a day. A rushed bowl of cereal before work. A drive-thru coffee on the way to school. Bacon and eggs at a local diner on the weekend after a late night. Functional, predictable, and often overlooked as a setting to create connections and memories. Then OEB changed the conversation.
In the early-2000’s, OEB Breakfast Co. set out to prove that breakfast could be more than just the first meal of the day. It could be refined, ingredient-forward, and the chosen gathering place for both the celebratory and mundane moments.

Turning Breakfast Into an Experience
Eventually, breakfast became an experience. This was done through OEB’s philosophy on what brunch could feel like, not just taste like. Every menu item was designed to carefully balance comfort with creativity and nostalgia with innovation. OEB transformed classic breakfast staples into dishes such as breakfast poutines with brown butter hollandaise, blue plate specials featuring crab and lobster, and waffles infused with bacon for sweet-and-salty lovers. Suddenly, breakfast wasn’t an afterthought; it became the destination.
A Commitment to Quality Ingredients
Part of what made OEB stand out was its commitment to quality at every level. Long before “farm-to-table” became a buzzword, OEB was building strong relationships with local farmers, producers, and suppliers. Ingredients weren’t chosen simply because they were available or the most affordable; they were chosen because they told a story. The stories are told on our supplier page. Things like free-run eggs, fresh herbs, artisan breads, house-made sauces, and premium coffee. The details mattered; they still do.
OEB helped redefine what guests expected from a morning meal by treating breakfast ingredients with the same respect as in fine dining. And while the menu pushes boundaries, it still feels approachable and satisfying. It’s why guests can enjoy something adventurous on one visit and crave a perfectly executed classic on the next visit.
Building Canada's Brunch Culture
But OEB wasn’t just building restaurants and dishes; it was one of the first brands to build a brunch culture. Weekend brunch became social, shareable, and the main event of the day. Guests weren’t coming only for food; they were coming for the ambience, the hospitality, and the feeling that breakfast was so much more exciting than they were used to.
That influence extended far beyond OEB’s dining rooms. Across Canada, restaurants began elevating their breakfast programs, experimenting with presentation, ingredient quality, and chef-inspired brunch menus. The breakfast category evolved, and OEB helped lead that movement.
Raising the Bar Every Morning
Today, OEB continues to challenge expectations around what breakfast can be. That means never stopping to evolve, learn, and innovate. Because breakfast deserves more, and at OEB, it always has.
